Garden update July 26th

We apologize for the lack of posts. Technology has not been our friend lately and you can only yell at objects for so long before you realize you are losing the battle.

The good news is the garden survived the hail and just about everything made it past the day 10 make it or break it deadline.  Our onions, lettuce, beets and carrots were greatly diminished. We have tried to resow a few of each, but time is not on our side here in Saskatchewan. The pictures below shows our 10 remaining carrots on the left. Spotty lettuce in the middle and equally spotty beets

The other sad news is that the darn birds ate our cherries and saskatoons! We were able to get enough cherries for jam. Unfortunately a swarm of cedar waxwings devoured our saskatoon bush. despite numerous attempts by very sad children yelling at them they were not deterred at all and ate everything.

We were quite upset. However, as our 4 year old informed us.
"This is the circle of life. Birds eat berries and poop out the seeds to make new trees"  lol We often wondered out that worked.

There good news though. A lot starting to produce
Lettuce

Beans

Rhubarb

Tomatoes. Look at the damaged stalks and yet still fruit!

Peas....aka the kids new obsession. Recall our comment earlier about the birds and the berries. Now envision kids and pea plants....scary!

Cabbage

Baby zucchini

Thank you for sticking around for a quick update.
Our 1st food drop off will be happening tomorrow. We are trying to get this blog to update the info. However, if it doesn't show please check out our facebook page for more information.
