What is a blog with out posts! 

We are not sure, but the answer is likely not very good. We had a battle with technology this summer and lost. We do now have highspeed internet that works and hopefully this means we can start to post on a more regular basis! We are still losing the battle over on Facebook so if you haven't signed up for our newsletter please do. We promise not to spam you. We hate spam as much as everyone else does! This year was a strange one for the garden for sure. Everything started out great and then the hail came. We waited the 10 days like all the information online said and thought that we were in the clear. However, that was not the case. Our plants were damaged enough by the hail that they went right into end of the year mode. This  means they thought they had produced their fruit and went into seed. Although are garden looked amazing it didn't actually produce that much. Those plants that did produce only put out one fruit or a very small number. 

So after a bad year we were getting quite excited about our fall crops and then the weather got unusually cold and on a night where 'they" were not calling for frost we got a killer frost. That means it went down to -5C or below. So that took out everything else. Oh my it was quite the year. However, that is a life of a farmer and we still count our blessings. There are quite a few large farmers that are still struggling with this harvest. 

We are still in the process of preserving our harvest so stay tuned for yummy canned goods. Below is a picture of our latest batch of Zucchini relish before it started to cook. It is a staple in our family and the kids put it on everything!

Hello again! We have been naughty bloggers and it has almost been a year since our last post. Why? well life is the short answer. The long answer is with all the social media platforms which do you focus on to bring in customers? We are not sure about the answer so we stuck to Facebook and Instagram. You can find links to both of our accounts on the left hand of your screen and at the end of this post Keeping a blog updated is a lot of work, especially if you are not sure if anyone is reading it..lol and extra especially if you tend to ramble. Nonetheless, we are going to try and start it up again. We are going to try and feature a recipe each week that includes something that we sell. Happy New year and garden plan

Happy New Year!! It is hard to believe that 2019 is here already! Where does the time go!  Here at Pickle Patch Gardens we are already starting to plan for this years growing season. It is a little hard to do when the garden looks like this. Yes, that is the garden behind the tractor rim in the middle of the picture. It is also hard to believe that this is a small amount of snow for winter out here. Unfortunately, we will likely have a lot more snow in the next couple of months. We need the moisture, but lots of snow is no fun either! So how do we plan for our 2019 growing season you ask?  Step 1 is to go over our notes from last year and see what worked and what did not. It will be a little hard to do this year due to the hail storm we had in June. However, we still have an idea. More on that in another post.
